| Fact: All of the
guys at Roy's bachelor party were over twenty-five. Fact: Nine out of the ten guys were bachelors. Fact: The one guy who was married just got married two months before the party. Fact: Two married men were invited to the party but didn't come because of work. Question: What does this mean? Do singles tend to befriend singles? Is our generation getting married later than previous generations? Are there larger numbers in our generation who won't get married? Are we afraid of marriage and if so, why? Has Hollywood set our standards too high? Do we like our lifestyle so much that we don't want to share it with another person? Are we unable to accept other people? Is marriage passé? Are we afraid of the time commitment of marriage? This has been an extraordinary year for me. My best buddy Roy is getting married, another long time friend Bea is getting married and another good friend Al A. just got married. We all used to wonder if any of us would ever get married and then bang! This year came along. Thinking that this year might be a sign of things to come, four of us at Dave's good-bye party started a pool to guess when each of us will be getting married. Here are the bachelors (the morning after): |
